About

'Double Take' explores cinematic portrayals of doppelgängers, look-alikes and the uncanny. From duplicitous imposters and conniving clones to inseparable twins and oneiric obsession, the program examines the mutability of identity and the ways in which it can fragmented, replicated and exchanged between people. It dives into the enigmatic and the macabre with paranoid thrillers, fantastical dramas and hair-raising horrors from around the world, presented from rare archival prints and new digital restorations.

QAGOMA acknowledges the generous assistance of the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, Canberra; the Eye Filmmuseum, Amsterdam; the American Genre Film Archive, Austin; the Danish Film Institute, Copenhagen; the Slovenian Film Centre, Ljubljana; the British Film Institute, London; the Academy Film Museum, Los Angeles; the UCLA Film & Television Archive, Los Angeles; the Filmoteca de la UNAM, Mexico City; the Revival House, Perth; the National Film Archive, Prague; and the Swedish Film Institute, Stockholm in providing materials for this program. Program curated by Robert Hughes, Australian Cinémathèque.
