Young-soo has a problem. People have been seeing his girlfriend Min-jung drinking around town with other men. After she denies the accusation and they split up, we watch as a woman who appears to be Min-jung has a series of inscrutable encounters in bars and cafes, where various men impotently insist that they know her. She seems to respond differently to each person, but is this a newly assertive Min-jung or her twin — or someone else entirely? One of prolific Korean auteur Hong Sang-soo's most playful comedies, Yourself and Yours is a sparklingly surreal exploration of insecurity, identity and the unknowability of others. Drawing inspiration from Luis Buñuel's That Obscure Object of Desire 1977, it is, as described by critic Kristen Yoonsoo Kim, "a refreshing spin on the female doppelganger trope [that] subverts a more prevalent storyline within the Hong filmography, which often sees the male character taking a redo in a failed relationship."
