Doubles, proxies, and bi-location fuel this neo-noir from David Lynch, inspired by the high-profile OJ Simpson trial. When saxophonist Fred (Bill Pullman) and his wife Renee (Patricia Arquette) begin receiving sinister video tapes of their own house, Fred’s life starts to rupture. Meanwhile, mechanic-to-the-mob Pete’s (Balthazar Getty) entanglement with his employer’s girlfriend Alice (also Patricia Arquette) leads into ever-more dangerous territory. Described by its director as a "psychogenic fugue," the film is a waking Californian nightmare, carried by the involuted logic of a troubled subconscious.
