Robert Altman's pastel, Freudian dreamscape 3 Women is a ravishing exploration of the nature of identity. Sissy Spacek's meek Pinky has just started her new job as a nurse when she becomes enthralled with the garrulous, wannabe-cosmopolitan Millie (Shelley Duvall, in a breathtaking performance that won Best Actress at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival). As they grow closer, the intensity of Pinky's obsessive friendship begins to cause ruptures deep within their souls.
