The latest film from British filmmaker Mark Jenkin (Bait 2019, Enys Men 2022), Rose of Nevada is a beguiling time-bending mystery. Having never returned after a fishing trip decades ago, the boat The Rose of Nevada inexplicably reappears in a Cornish harbour. Desperate for work, two young fishermen (Callum Turner and George MacKay) set out on it for a lucrative payday. When they arrive home, however, they find that the local townsfolk greet them as if they were the crew that went out to sea 30 years ago. Shot on a 16mm Bolex camera, the film showcases Jenkin's characteristically tactile visual style, with bold luminous colours and scratchy imperfections intermingling in this tale of displacement and the haze of memory.
