Experience the Meanjin/Brisbane freestyle dance community in action as they bring popping, breaking, hip-hop and more to life at pop-up performances.

This crew brings together dancers from all over Meanjin/Brisbane, representing a variety of street and freestyle dance. Coming from all walks of life and united by their love of dance, music and community, for years they have trained and connected with GOMA as a backdrop.

As a former Scandinavian break-dancing champion, Olafur Eliasson states that his dance practice altered the way he understands time and space.

Your ticket includes exclusive access to:

  • After-hours entry to level 1 of GOMA to view 'Olafur Eliasson: Presence'. We recommend allowing an hour to experience the exhibition.
  • The Vinyl Listening Bar where you can purchase bar snacks and cocktails, while listening to records spun by Brisbane’s best selectors.
  • Pop-Up Performances by Freestylers and musician Vanessa Tomlinson.
  • River Room bar where you can purchase food and drink, enjoy the river view and listen to tunes chosen by cutting edge DJs.
  • Pop-Up GOMA Store.

Participation and content

  • GOMA Friday Nights is an immersive and social experience of GOMA after-hours. You are welcome to come with a friend or by yourself. Many people attend the Gallery solo.
  • GOMA Friday Nights is an all-ages event. Please supervise any children under the age of 12 for whom you are responsible.
  • Capacity is limited.
  • We ask all attendees to be kind, respectful and courteous to all participants, speakers and staff at this event. This program will be monitored by QAGOMA staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our attendees, speakers and staff.
  • Drink service concludes at 8.15pm. Ticket sales end at 7.30pm or when sold out.


Accessibility

  • Low seating and tables, as well as high stools and tables will available throughout the event.
  • This event is wheelchair and pram accessible.

Sensory aspects

  • Amplified music will be played throughout the event, including within the Vinyl Listening Bar, River Room Bar and during the pop-up performances.
  • Different areas of the event and exhibition will be dimly or brightly lit (you may choose to wear sunglasses).
  • The Gallery air conditioning is set to 21°C to conserve the artwork.
  • The bathrooms have sensor lights which activate as you enter.
  • These events may be photographed or filmed by QAGOMA staff. If you do not wish to be photographed or filmed, please advise a QAGOMA staff member on arrival.
  • If the event becomes overwhelming or stressful, earmuffs and sensory kits are available. Each kit contains a number of resources for self-regulation and calming. Please speak to a staff member for assistance. These kits can also be requested in advance by emailing

We accept Companion Cards. A Companion Card is issued by the Queensland Government, for those with a disability and need for attendant care support. The ‘Companion’ ticket type is only valid for your companion to gain complimentary entry. A valid GOMA Friday Nights ticket is required for the Companion Card holder to access this event. A valid companion card number is required to be supplied upon booking.

Beats of No Nation

Beats of No Nation (BONN) is a Brisbane-based independent record label, radio show and collective founded in 2015 by Dom Bird and Jad & The. Originally launched as a weekly program on community station 4ZZZ, BONN quickly developed a reputation as a tastemaker platform for emerging Australian producers alongside international artists.

Through releases, DJ mixes, and curated events, BONN explores the deeper edges of electronic music, drawing from house, soul, jazz, disco and global club sounds while championing independent artists and collaborative culture.

Quiet Storm Records

Founded in Meanjin/Brisbane in 2022, Quiet Storm Records is a specialty import record store shining a light on overlooked, out-of-circulation and under-the-radar music. Spanning many genres, eras and geographies, QSR founder Jordy sustains a sharp focus on jazz, dub, soul, funk, hip-hop, African and Latin records, and the outer edges of left-field and underground electronic sound. Fellow DJ Em Devers will play vinyl records that drift between organic and electronic ambient music, to the cosmic, propulsive energy of spiritual jazz.

From carpark block parties to club nights the approach is the same, to push quality and enjoyment to those who are willing. Whether performing as Benny Chiu and Paulie M or promoting, the goal is a good time shared through music.

Luke Brazier is a Southeast QLD–based DJ and music technology educator. Known for his work with QUIVR as a resident DJ and course instructor, Luke is a versatile selector whose sound is shaped by the QUIVR space and the people who pass through it. Soul Has No Tempo is a Meanjin/Brisbane-based record label and artist agency, working at the intersection of music and community. With a focus on independent pathways, they support emerging artists and create spaces for people to connect through sound. Founded by Alieta Tomoana and Gavin Boyd, the project is shaped by a joint relationship and background in music. Originally from Aotearoa, Alieta works as an artist manager and is a passionate advocate for First Nations and culturally diverse musicians, creating avenues for them to share their stories in authentic and meaningful ways. Gavin is a seasoned deejay and ardent music enthusiast with over two decades of experience behind the turntables.

Blair launched the online party club ‘Immaterial; during the pandemic, an integral queer event in the city throughout 2022/23.
