About
Suspiria will screen from a 4k digital restoration of the film.
This screening will be introduced by film critic and author Alexandra Heller-Nicholas. Alexandra is the author of four books on cult and exploitation cinema, including 2014 book Suspiria for the Devil's Advocates series by UK publisher Auteur.
Beloved, influential, oft-imitated but never surpassed – Suspiria is the crown jewel of Italian horror. From the pulse-pounding score to the lavish colour that soaks through each shot, this is a film like no other. The film opens with one of the most elaborate and thrilling murder scenes in cinema history and never lets up from there.
The plot finds a young American woman arriving at a ballet school in Germany. However, she soon realises there is something far more insidious and darkly supernatural hidden within the bowels of the school.
Goblin's iconic soundtrack remains one of horror's finest, burnishing each sequence with truly potent terror, while the new 4k restoration of the film makes it look sharper and more vivid than ever. The craftsmanship that has gone into enhancing the look and sound of the film is utterly meticulous, making it both a perfect introduction to the film as well as a chance to revisit a revitalised classic.
Note: Claudio Simonetti's Goblin will be travelling from Rome to perform a live score of Suspiria at The Tivoli on Friday 22 September. More details about the event can be found here.
