Yasuyo Anne Uehara

Psychotherapist & Mindfulness Yoga Teacher
Yasuyo is a seasoned therapist with 20 years of experience. As a dedicated practitioner, she integrates the science of awareness with ancient practices of breathing, movement, and meditation to teach healing states of consciousness. Specialising in Depth psychology, neuroscience, and Internal Family Systems therapy, Yasuyo enjoys guiding others to build the capacity to be present and expand into higher states of openness and vitality in both body and mind. She teaches how to connect and develop intimacy with the sensory field in the body, offering a practice that helps individuals remember and return to the simple satisfactions of existence. Her approach is deeply rooted in the understanding that we are designed to encounter life with awe and wonder and to stretch the reach of our being in this “one wild and precious life.”

What to expect

Everyone is welcome! Please contact events.plus@qagoma.qld.gov.au in advance of the program if you have any accessibility needs or queries about the event. Find out more about Accessibility at QAGOMA and planning your visit.

Participation and content

  • You are welcome to come with a friend or by yourself. Many people attend the Gallery and events solo.
  • The session is a seated mindfulness experience that will involve some light stretching, however it’s not an exercise class – so movement will be gentle. Please let us know if you have any access requirements that restrict your movement, and the facilitator will adapt the session to your needs
  • No experience is required. These sessions are designed for all abilities. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner with mindfulness, our expert facilitator will guide and support you throughout the session.
  • You don’t need to bring anything, but we suggest that you wear comfortable and loose clothing.
  • We recommend that you remove your shoes for the session (but it’s not compulsory to).
  • You will be invited to close your eyes at times. This is a choice and eyes can remain open. Your comfort is most important.
  • You are welcome to take breaks or step out of the session at any time.
  • These sessions focus on wellbeing and may touch on the theme of mental health. QAGOMA is not a licensed mental health service and is not a substitute for professional mental health advice, treatment or assessment. Advice given in these sessions are general in nature.
  • We ask all attendees to be kind, respectful and courteous to all participants, speakers and staff at this event. This program will be monitored by QAGOMA staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our attendees, speakers and staff.

Sensory aspects

  • This event has a capped capacity of 25 attendees.
  • The facilitator will use an amplified microphone.
  • Background music may be played. If this may affect your ability to attend, please email events.plus@qagoma.qld.gov.au so we can ensure the session is accessible for you.
  • You will be provided with the option of a standard height chair with a back or a meditation floor chair with back support.
  • We try our best to minimise sound in the space but sometimes there might be low level noise from a nearby artwork or the sounds of the Gallery.
  • The floor surface may vary depending on the location of the session (wood or concrete). Additional mats and cushions can be supplied upon request.
  • No screens or projections will be used during the event.
  • The Gallery can get a little chilly as the temperature is set to 21 degrees for the preservation of the artwork, so bring a shawl or a light jacket.
  • Depending on the location of the session, the space might be dimly or brightly lit (you may choose to wear sunglasses).
  • The bathrooms have sensor lights which activate as you enter.
