After sailing through a strange mist while on holiday with his wife Louise, to his dismay Scott discovers he is shrinking. The catalyst for his transformation is the mist which is composed of insecticide and radiation. Made in the 1950s, the film engages not only with Cold War anxieties of mysterious chemical experimentation but the changing landscape of the domestic sphere. As Scott grapples with the pitfalls of getting smaller he battles spiders, the family cat and starts living in the dollhouse as he is slowly displaced from his position as the head of the household.
