APT8 Kids on Tour

1 Jan 2016 – 31 Mar 2016
ON TOUR | Free

For 'The 8th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art' (APT8), the Queensland Art Gallery │ Gallery of Modern Art Children's Art Centre will present 'APT8 Kids' (21 November 2014 – 10 April 2106). 'APT8 Kids' will include a number of interactive artist projects exploring exhibition themes from APT8, including the transformation of everyday objects, performance and the body in art.

APT8 Kids on Tour will provide children and families throughout Queensland with the opportunity to enjoy 'APT8 Kids' at their local venue, enabling children to experience and explore contemporary art from Australia, Asia and the Pacific through a range of drawing, hands‑on and multimedia activities.

Venues will also be provided with a selection of activities from the Children's Art Centre publication Draw, Make, Create: APT8 Kids, that were created in collaboration with a number of exhibiting APT8 artists in association with the 'APT8 Kids' exhibition. APT8 Kids on Tour is offered as a free program to regional Queensland communities through the Gallery's Regional Services department, thanks to generous support from the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation.

ACTIVITIES

RICHARD BELL
15 MINUTES
2015

Richard Bell puts the spotlight on children and provides an opportunity for them to express their own opinions in a new video work that looks at the cult of celebrity and fame. The film features school students from across Queensland talking about their interests and ambitions and why they could be famous.

UUDAM TRAN NGUYEN
DRAW 2 CONNECT WITH LICENSE 2 DRAW 2015

Children can access the online activity Draw 2 Connect with License 2 Draw and drive a virtual car over a digital canvas to create a picture. The online activity is a multilayer platform where each person involved appears in the same digital environment. This allows children from across the world to work together to create a picture.

ROSANNA RAYMOND
PLAY WITH YOUR BIRDS 2015

Play with Your Birds invites children to explore the tiputa, a type of garment originally created in Tahiti and widely used throughout the Pacific. Children can make their own Tiputa using specially design templates that can be embellished with rubbings of patterns carved into various surfaces of the space.

VENKAT RAMAN SINGH SHYAM
THE WOMAN AND THE PARROT
2015

Indian artist Venkat Raman Singh Shyam presents a drawing activity for children based on the distinctive patterns used in Gond art and a story entitled The Woman and the Parrot. Children are encouraged to learn about the meaning and significance of the different patterns included in the activity.

YELENA VOROBYEVA AND VIKTOR VOROBYEV
I PREFER… 2015

For APT8 Kids, the artists present their work I Prefer Watermelons 2002, which depicts them transforming green tomatoes into watermelons by painting them with black stripes. In this activity, children can select a fruit or vegetable template and use their imagination to transform it into something different using coloured pens.
