About
Lisa and the Devil will screen from a 35mm film print.
In Lisa and the Devil, Lisa, a young American tourist in Spain finds herself entangled in a web of evil and debauchery after she takes refuge in the manor of a strange aristocratic family. Her time in the mansion becomes increasingly nightmarish as surreal accusations and remembrances begin to plague her.
The film is a vibrant and inspired gothic tale, filled with baroque imagery and beguiling terrors. It is often described as Mario Bava's most personal film, which may be evident simply from the care with which the sumptuous imagery has clearly been put together. The slow-burning dread builds over a smorgasbord of colour and lush cinematography, while Lisa wades deeper into the horrible dream labyrinth of the mansion. A masterful production from one of the greats of Italian horror.
