Witkacy & Malinowski: A Cinematic Séance in 23 Scenes 2017 Ages 15+
Australian video artist and filmmaker John Gillies presents a bold and engaging experimental work that balances the absurdist with the sensibilities of its two central subjects.
Acclaimed Polish writer, philosopher, painter and photographer Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz (also known as Witkacy) has been invited to Australia by his friend, Polish anthropologist Bronisław Malinowski, following the death of Witkacy’s fiancée, painter Jadwiga Janczewska. The film takes place in 1914 on a train ride from Brisbane to Toowoomba and shows the friendship between the two men burn toward its explosive end through a series of impassioned and heated conversations.
