SYNOPSIS

Flying Punjab is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that traverses taboo territory for Bollywood. Not only does the film acknowledge the drug trade and it’s devastating realities but questions the authorities’ role in the flow of drugs into India. The film’s bold narrative follows four people caught in the narcotics web: a rockstar addict Tommy Singh (Shahid Kapoor), a poor field worker (Alia Bhatt), a corrupt police office (Diljit Dosanjh) and doctor trying to fight the tide of overdose (Kareena Kapoor Khan).

‘This is a Punjab that is far removed from the lush fields depicted in regular Bollywood movies, where lovers meet and sing songs. Its people are nothing like the happy, good-humoured men and women we’ve come to expect from popular cinema. In Abhishek Chaubey’s Punjab, drug deliveries are made in the fields in the dead of the night, the police turn a blind eye to the growing menace, and a whole generation is in peril due to unchecked substance abuse and addiction. This grim Punjab will not make you want to break into bhangra, it’ll make you want to go out and fight for better governance.’ The National
