SYNOPSIS
With a full life comes heart break and challenges. This strand brings together works by animators exploring what it means to love, lose, honour the past and move forward.
On a Full Moon 1997 dir. Lee Whitmore (17 mins)
“In the space of a month Laura experiences first the death of her mother then the birth of her first child. On a Full Moon is a passionate, poetic and sometimes amusing look at the way Laura deals with these ‘big events’. The story is told by interweaving Laura’s gentle childhood memories with the immediate hectic reality of coping with a toddler. The childhood memories are of a river where Laura’s mother often took her and her brother. The stillness, beauty and serenity of the river dramatically contrasts with the crazy scenes of life as an urban mum. When Laura unexpectedly meets another new mum Jane, once a childhood friend, she gains a new perspective on her changing life.” Lee Whitmore
Living with Happiness 2002 dir. Sarah Watt (6 mins)
“Knowing you are happy means knowing that your happiness could be snatched away at any time.” The National Film and Sound Archive
Grace Under Water 2014 dir. Anthony Lawrence (9 mins)
“Lou is losing the cold war with her stubborn and enigmatic stepdaughter Grace when an unexpected challenge arises from the depths of a warm, dreamy afternoon at the local pool.” Screen Australia
Filled with Water 2006 dir. Elka Kerkhofs (5 mins)
“Anoka feels deep emptiness until she walks into a TV and her heart begins to glow for the ballerina inside. But she learns filling her heart can mean breaking it, when the one you love craves a stronger desire.” Elka Kerkhofs
His Mother’s Voice 1997 dir. Dennis Tupicoff (14.25 mins)
“A mother tells how she found out that her teenage son was dead. Using the original ABC radio interview, His Mother's Voice uses rotoscoped animation to present Kathy Easdale's account from two very different points of view.” Dennis Tupicoff
After All 2016 dir. Michael Cusack (13 mins)
“After All is said and done. A man clears out his childhood home, remembering past conversations.” Screen Australia
