Video Witness: News from the Worldexplores the use of digital technologies in last decade as effective tools in protecting human rights. The program brings together important examples of filmmakers and non-professionals making use of the accessibility of digital cameras and mobile technologies to record political struggles and communities under threat. The footage serves not only as a document of memory and a portrait of daily life lived under political or social instability, but also asserts events and actions denied by a political regime. In many instances of political oppression or conflict, a video camera can be more effective for personal protection than a weapon.
