About
Take a journey of discovery this season as we learn about the lives of four artists from the QAGOMA Collection. Battarbee and Namatjira is a double biography of artists Rex Battarbee and Albert Namatjira. Moving between the artists and their backgrounds, the author portrays the two men’s personal and social difficulties while at the same time illuminating large cultural themes — the traditions and legacy of the Arrernte people, the influence of the Lutheran church, the development of anthropology and the evolution of Australian art. ‘Namatjira Story’, on display in Gallery 2 at QAG, includes paintings by both Namatjira and Battarbee, alongside works by other artists from the Namatjira School. $12 Members | $17 Members' guests (includes coffee/tea and sweets) / Book online or call (07) 3840 7278 to join the monthly discussions hosted by Book Club Facilitator Eve Jensen / Members receive 20% off current and past Book Club titles from the QAGOMA Store.
