About
Teens aged 13-18 years are invited to join artist Brian Robinson for a hands-on workshop during NAIDOC Week. Drawing on the global tradition of tattooing, Torres Strait Islander patterns and familiar Marvel symbols, participants will create contemporary tattoo drawings that immortalise their individual values and memories. Teens will also delve into the dark side of Marvel through a collaborative activity where they create and become supervillains in a large-scale police lineup.
Cairns-based artist Brian Robinson is of the Kala Lagaw Ya and Wuthathi language groups of the Torres Strait. Robinson's distinctive prints, paintings and sculptures explore his own heritage as well as cultural narratives and legends from around the world. In 2016 he created Myth & Marvel, a series of linocut prints that combine global mythology with Marvel super heroes.
