About

Discuss art, life, culture and creativity from the comfort of your own home at the QAGOMA Members Virtual Book Club. From August until November the titles on the reading list feature the writing and stories of Indigenous women, celebrating and connecting to ‘Mavis Ngallametta: Show Me the Way to Go Home’, currently on display in the Queensland Art Gallery. Book 2: The Yield (2019), Tara June Winch Session 1: Wed 23 Sep, 3.00pm Session 2: Thu 24 Sep, 10.30am Told in three masterfully woven narratives, Tara June Winch’s The Yield is a celebration of language and an exploration of what makes a place "home". A story of a people and a culture dispossessed, it is also a joyful reminder of what once was and what endures — a powerful reclaiming of Indigenous language, storytelling, and identity. The yield in English is the reaping, the things that man can take from the land. In the language of the Wiradjuri yield is the things you give to, the movement, the space between things: baayanha. Book 1: Growing Up Aboriginal in Australia (2018), edited by Anita Heiss Book 3: Top End Girl (2020), Miranda Tapsell Book 4: The Old Lie (2019), Claire G. Coleman Booking essential / Free for Members / $5 Members' Guests / Book online or call (07) 3840 7278 to join these virtual discussions hosted by Book Club Facilitator Eve Jensen.
