Dance your cares away, enter a world of make-believe and magic, and explore the most comprehensive collection of creations by The Jim Henson Company ever assembled.

Make, Believe, Magic: The Worlds of The Jim Henson Company’ at the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) from 12 September 2026 – 18 April 2027 delves into the Company’s 70-year legacy.

With surprises around every corner, the exclusive-to-Brisbane exhibition celebrates the Company’s characters and worlds including Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock, the treasured fantasy worlds of The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, iconic characters of the Muppets, and instantly recognisable residents of Sesame Street.

Accompanying the exhibition is 'The Sock Puppet Studio' where you can create your own character puppet using simple materials like socks, pipe cleaners and yarn.

Become both builder and performer in this hands-on experience inspired by the work of The Jim Henson Company, who believe you can make extraordinary characters from ordinary materials.

Be the first to create your own sock puppet at the Pop-Up Sock Puppet Studio 9.00am – 11.30am on Sunday 6 and 13 September at the Brisbane Festival Village, South Bank.

Access to the activity is included with your ‘Make, Believe, Magic: The Worlds of The Jim Henson Company’ exhibition ticket from 10.00am – 3.30pm daily during Queensland state school holidays (19 Sep – 5 Oct 2026; 12 Dec 2026 – 26 Jan 2027 excluding Christmas Day & Boxing Day; 27 Mar – 10 Apr 2027 excluding Good Friday). Get tickets.

Only at the GOMA activity, step into the role of puppeteer and bring your character to life. Record a lip-sync performance with your character, using techniques inspired by The Jim Henson Company. Download your performance to keep and share.

Finished puppets are left behind so materials can be reused by others to create even more characters.

This experience is designed for all ages and skill levels, with no experience necessary.
