As a hands-on opportunity to build a perpetually evolving ‘city of the future’, The cubic structural evolution project 2004 celebrates creativity and collective effort. Since 2005, when it entered the QAGOMA Collection, generations of children and adults have taken up Olafur Eliasson’s invitation to join together and become co‑producers of this work.
During ‘Presence’ at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) until 12 July 2026, you are invited to build your vision of an ideal city using the Lego bricks piled up on and spread over long tables. Your work is modified and elaborated on by subsequent visitors over the course of the exhibition, in an immense collaborative project that is constantly changing and growing, The cubic structural evolution project is transformed every day, and therefore is never finished.
