In ‘Transitions Now’ innovative textured and sculpted works illustrate Aboriginal Australian artists’ ongoing commitment to declare creatively their identity and vital presence in contemporary society. In dynamic juxtapositions, individual and group artistic statements predominate over strictly-held categories, demonstrating the immeasurable contribution Aboriginal artists continue to make to Australia’s visual art profile.

Though inspirations are often still sourced and nourished by ancient traditions and narratives, today’s responses are often entirely contemporary – with new materials and techniques (including found objects and fabricated components) telling recent histories in their incised, painted and textured surfaces.
