People walking. Coloured is extremely restrained in its use of pictorial information; each figure in Opie's LED based work is faceless and dressed in a generic outfit suggestive of someone on a city street. Each has a gait and posture with unique and strangely life-like qualities, despite the minimal elements used in their depiction. This flow of bodies has no discernable beginning or end, creating a hypnotic, mesmeric rhythm suggestive of the endless flow of people in contemporary cities.

Julian Opie is renowned for his simplified and effective visual language. While his works employ a high degree of abstraction and abbreviation, they still retain a strong connection to their subjects. In discussing his processes, Opie has commented that 'my work isn't about paring things down but about starting from something simple and building the image up until I achieve a kind of singularity'.
