When
10.30 – 11.30am, Sat 24 Jul 2021About
Uncover and unpack artworks featured in ‘European Masterpieces from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York’. Who is missing from art history? Explore why certain artworks are declared a ‘masterpiece’ while others are ignored, and discover which perspectives are often missing from the canon of art history. Learn about the work that contemporary artists, academics and museums are doing to dismantle, revise, re-frame and challenge whose story is told and what is seen in Galleries around the world. Plus, dive deeper into the contradictions that many find themselves entangled in when trying to talk openly about art, museums and social change. Hosted by Andy Butler (artist, writer and curator) Free / Bookings required / Participant’s webcam and microphone will be disabled / The event will be recorded and made available on QAGOMA’s YouTube channel. This exhibition was organised by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York in collaboration with Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art and Art Exhibitions Australia.
