About
Delve deeper into QAGOMA exhibitions and displays at the monthly Members lecture.
Join Dr Andrea Bubenik (Associate Professor, School of Communication and Arts, The University of Queensland) for a deep-dive exploration of Tintoretto’s Cristo risorgente (The risen Christ) c.1555, a masterful work from the QAGOMA Collection. Discover how Tintoretto transforms a divine apparition into something startlingly immediate. Made at a moment when the power of images was being intensely debated, this painting reflects an artistic freedom to experiment with how belief might be made visible. Theology becomes theatre, and unfolds in flashes of light, rapid brushstrokes, fractured space, and restless bodies. This talk explores Tintoretto’s radical approach to painting, revealing an artist who uses the very substance of paint to make the divine feel alive.
Free for Members, $10 Members’ guests. Bookings are essential as capacity is limited.
