In part two of our series exploring ‘Make, Believe, Magic: The Worlds of The Jim Henson Company’, Amanda Slack-Smith, Curatorial Manager, Australian Cinémathèque shares insights into the exhibition, which spans seven decades of innovative puppetry and world-building – from the Muppets and Sesame Street to Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. Discover the craftsmanship behind The Jim Henson Company’s beloved characters, the mechanics that bring them to life, and how the Company embraces digital technologies while staying true to the handmade artistry at its core.

This lecture is free for Members, $10 Members’ guests. Bookings are essential as capacity is limited.

Sensory aspects

  • Speakers will use an amplified microphone.
  • A screen/projection will be used during the event.
  • This event will be held in Cinema A, which is a 220 seat theatre space.
  • The lights will be turned down on the audience during the event. You can leave the space at any time and re-enter the event.
  • Chairs with backs will be available.
  • This event will be photographed by QAGOMA staff. If you do not wish to be photographed, please advise a QAGOMA staff member on arrival.
