About

Discuss art, life, culture and creativity at the monthly Members Book Club. The titles on the reading list for June to October 2024 connect to ideas in the exhibition ‘Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses’.

Remarkably Bright Creatures (2022) by Shelby van Pelt

After Tova’s husband died, she began working the night cleaner shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium. She has coped by keeping busy, ever since her son, Erik, mysteriously disappeared from a boat over thirty years ago. One night she meets Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors – until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova. Ever the detective, Marcellus deduces what happened the night Tova’s son disappeared. And now Marcellus must use every trick his old invertebrate body can muster to unearth the truth for her before it’s too late.

Ticket includes light refreshments. Members receive 20% off current and past Book Club titles from the QAGOMA Store.
