About

Delve deeper into QAGOMA exhibitions and displays at our monthly Members lecture then catch up with friends over a two-course lunch in the GOMA Restaurant. Join Indigenous Australian Art Curators Katina Davidson, Sophia Sambono and curator of Indigenous Fibre Art, Diane Moon to hear about their diverse APT10 projects with artists Gordon Hookey, Grace Lillian Lee’s collaboration with Dr Ken Thaiday Snr, and the Macassan/Yolngu Project. Hear how these projects have gone on to have an impact across wider communities — whether it’s the mammoth paintings by Hookey where he has taken it upon himself to cheekily ‘fill the blanks’ between widely known histories of Australia, in an aim to educate future generations by writing cultural heroes into history books; the importance of inter-generational knowledge sharing and collaboration with Meriam Mer artists Lee and Thaiday Snr whose Suggoo Pennise project brings together Lee’s woven octopus (suggoo) form and Thaiday Snr’s carved wood fish trap (pennise) dhari in a larger than life kinetic sculpture embodied withgenerations of kustom and performance traditions; to the latest in centuries-long sea-faring exchange between the Yolngu artists of Arnhem Land and Macassan artists of Sulawesi from the Indonesian archipelago who revisit traditional forms in contemporary makings and explore an evolving narrative through performance art; etched metal work; batik and a joint project of hand painted ceramics. Bookings essential, places are limited. Lecture only tickets may be available, free for Members / $10 Member’s guests. $59 Members / $68 Members’ guests / Includes a glass of wine and a two-course lunch (main and dessert), followed by tea or coffee. If you wish to be seated with friends, please advise us at the time of booking. Member event cancellation and refund policy We understand that plans change and we always do our best to accomodate cancellation requests; however, last minute cancellations significantly impact our resourcing and the costs of running our Members events. For events with significant catering costs (e.g. Lunch & Lectures, special events): As of February 2022, where we are required to supply final numbers for catering purposes, ticketholders must provide at least 4 business days' notice of cancellation to be eligible for a refund or to transfer their payment to another event. Refund and transfer requests received after this time cannot be guaranteed. For events with minimal catering costs e.g. Book Club, paid Members viewings As of February 2022, ticket holders must provide at least 2 business days' notice of cancellation to be eligible for a refund. Within 24 hours of an event date, ticketholders may request to transfer their payment to another Members event. No-shows cannot be refunded or transferred. COVID safety To comply with social distancing measures capacity at this event is limited, book early to avoid disappointment. We have increased cleaning frequency, handwashing and sanitiser facilities, and introduced distance markers for queuing. We require your name and contact details, as well as your guest's, when booking to support contact tracing.
