Sammie Williams

Sammie choreographs, performs and teaches across a variety of dance styles from contemporary to hip hop and has worked across Brisbane for Elements Collective, Mad Dance house and as a freelance artist. She is extremely passionate about working in arts education, previously working for community program Street Dreams, in the VET sector and now as a High School dance teacher. Sammie has been an artist in residence at Metro Arts and the inaugural recipient of the Mad Dance and Laboite Grant to present a development of Hip Hop Theatre work ‘One Way’. She wrote and directed ‘Goldie and the 3 B-bears’ a hip hop theatre work for children, partnering with Elements Collective to tour the work to Logan, North QLD and the NT.

Sammie has performed with Vulcana Women's Circus for Impact and worked as a movement director for hip hop theatre show Brothers Book Club with Mama’s Boys, La Boite show IRL, Queensland Theatre’s Young People’s company and many more. You can also find her MC’ing dance battles and events, you might even catch her drop a few rhymes on the odd occasion to get the party started.

Participation and content

  • The tours are designed for all ages to enjoy. The content is pitched to best engage children aged 4–10 years, but younger and older children are also welcome. Parents and guardians are encouraged to use their discretion in deciding whether the tour feels right for their child’s interests and enjoyment. If you are unsure whether this program is the right fit for your child, please reach out to events.plus@qagoma.qld.gov.au
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult for this program.
  • This tour is designed as a shared experience for children and their families, with a focus on fostering connection between adults and children. Adults are encouraged to actively participate alongside their children.
  • We understand that children don’t always sit still and sometimes make noise, and that’s perfectly ok.
  • A valid Presence & Play tour ticket is required for all attendees, including children and adults accompanying children.
  • Tour content is repeated across all dates listed.
  • We ask all attendees to be kind, respectful, and courteous to all participants, speakers and staff at this event. This program will be monitored by QAGOMA staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our attendees, speakers and staff.

Information for families

  • Pram parking will be available at this event. Prams are also welcome in the gallery spaces.
  • Parents rooms are available on Level 1 and Park Level at GOMA.
  • For health and safety reasons, children must wear shoes while walking in the gallery spaces.
  • Breastfeeding and bottle feeding are welcome anywhere in the Gallery.
  • For the safety of artworks, food and drink cannot be consumed in the Gallery except by children seated in a pram.

Sensory aspects and Accessibility

  • This event has a maximum capacity of 34 attendees (including children and adults).
  • The tour will feature amplified sound and music.
  • The tour includes walking and interactive activities. The tour guide will adjust activities to accommodate different abilities and access needs, upon request.
  • Due to the nature of our young audience, these tours can get a little noisy. There may also be low level noise from a nearby artwork or the sounds of the Gallery.
  • Different areas of the event and exhibition will be dimly or brightly lit (you may choose to wear sunglasses).
  • The bathrooms have sensor lights which activate as you enter.
  • Please let us know in advance if you or your child are hard of hearing so we can make this program accessible for you.
  • The Gallery air conditioning is set to 21°C to conserve the artworks.
  • These events may be photographed by QAGOMA staff. If you do not wish to be photographed, please advise a QAGOMA staff member.
  • If the event becomes overwhelming or stressful, earmuffs and sensory kits are available. Each kit contains a number of resources for self-regulation and calming. Please speak to a staff member for assistance. These kits can also be requested in advance by emailing events.plus@qagoma.qld.gov.au

Companion Cards

We accept Companion Cards. A Companion Card is issued by the Queensland Government for those with a disability and need for attendant care support. The ‘Companion’ ticket type is only valid for your companion to gain complimentary entry. An Adult, Child and/or Youth ticket is required for the Companion Card holder to access this event. A valid companion card number is required to be supplied upon booking.
