Join us for this free talk by Kiki Fung on the career and revolutionary creative practice of Tōru Takemitsu.

While filmmakers of the Japanese New Wave were experimenting with new languages of cinema, and capturing the shifting politics and boundaries of relationships, Tōru Takemitsu responded to his close collaborator filmmakers with a ground-breaking approach to sound, music, and silence, innovatively weaving between the classical and the avant-garde. This talk will examine several of Takemitsu’s most iconic film composing works and how his vision was an integral part to the artistic quality and monumental status of these films.

Kiki Fung is a film critic, curator and Programme Consultant for Hong Kong International Film Festival, as well as former Head Programmer for the Brisbane International Film Festival and the Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival. She has guest curated for the Brisbane Festival, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, and the Hong Kong Government's Film Programmes Office.
