About

GOMA Talks returns during ‘Air’ to ask the question - is cancel culture giving us a voice or suffocating us?

Public shaming and calling out transgressions are social justice practices that have been around as long as society itself. In our increasingly digital world social media has become the contemporary town square, a place where conflicting views are aired on the daily – but what happens when you are deemed to have gone too far? Is cancel culture making our society better, or is it a punishment without a chance for redemption?

Join our guests (who’ve all had a brush with cancel culture), as they explore the reasons behind this modern wave of boycotting, and what a more nuanced and empathetic approach to accountability could look like.

Guests include:

  • Brittanie Shipway (she/her), Gumbaynggirr and Turkish storyteller, writer, creative and actor
  • Courtney Act (she/they), Artist and advocate
  • Michael Zavros (he/him), Artist
  • Zoë Coombs Marr(she/her), Performer, writer, artist and comedian
  • Host: Paul Barclay (he/him), Journalist and broadcaster

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Vidya Rajan can no longer participate in the session.
