What to Expect

'First Nations Art Tour: Asia Pacific Triennial' tours are a unique opportunity to engage with First Nations culture, local history, and art. Here’s what to expect at this event.

Everyone is welcome! Please contact events.plus@qagoma.qld.gov.au in advance of the program if you have any access needs or queries about the event. Find out more about Accessibility at QAGOMA and planning your visit.

Sensory aspects and accessibility

    • The route is wheelchair & pram accessible.
    • The route includes a short set of stairs to get outside and flat terrain walking inside the gallery.
    • We recommend wearing comfortable shoes.
  • The tour will include standing. Portable lightweight stools without backs will be available for use throughout.
  • The Gallery air conditioning is set to 21°C to conserve the artworks.
  • The facilitator will use an amplified microphone. Please let us know in advance if you are hard of hearing so we can make this tour accessible for you.

  • This event may be photographed by QAGOMA staff. If you do not wish to be photographed, please advise a QAGOMA staff member on arrival.

Content warning

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are respectfully advised that artworks included in the tour may contain images and references to ancestors, now deceased, and references to strong themes of colonial violence, domestic servitude, and contemporary social issues.

Participation and content

  • You are welcome to come with a friend, with your mob, or by yourself. Many people attend the Gallery solo.
  • It’s not possible to provide a comprehensive history of this place or First Nations art and culture in a short 45-minute tour. The tour will spark conversation by highlighting QAGOMA artworks and unpacking some of the stories these artworks tell.
  • The tours are designed as a space to ask questions and engage in respectful discussion. You can participate in discussion, ask questions, or just listen.
  • When posing questions please consider that the facilitators are not equipped to speak on behalf of all First Nations people, only on their own unique experience.
  • We ask all attendees to be kind, respectful, and courteous to all participants, speakers and staff at this event. This program will be monitored by QAGOMA staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our attendees, speakers and staff.
