About
For the first time, the recently heritage listed Queensland Art Gallery is inviting visitors behind-the-scenes to view its extensive artwork collection in storage during Brisbane Open House. The Gallery is modernising and expanding its collection storage space in line with architect Robin Gibson's original intention for a mezzanine level which will increase QAG's storage capacity by nearly a third. While the mezzanine is constructed, the Gallery has closed the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Galleries and the Queensland Artists' Gallery to temporarily and safely store the Collection. Be part of a rare opportunity to view the diverse artworks that comprise the collection, like you've never seen them before. A salon hang of Collection favourites, 'Moving Pictures: Towards a Rehang of Australian Art' is also on display at QAG. When QAG first opened in 1895, there were 109 works in its Collection. Today, that figure is over 17,000. 10.00am-5.00pm | Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October
