About

Discuss art, life, culture and creativity at the monthly Members Book Club. The titles on the reading list for June to October 2024 connect to ideas in the exhibition ‘Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses’.

The Seamstress of Sardinia (2022) by Bianca Pitzorno

A captivating historical tale set in early 20th century Sardinia. Born into poverty, Ester spends her days sewing in the houses of wealthy families. Her work is simple and honest; taught by her nonna, she skilfully prepares nightgowns, undergarments and children’s clothes, leaving the finer work of dressmaking to the ateliers of Paris. Her story weaves in and out of the lives of people she works for, whose secrets and scandals she is privy to, and follows her journey into womanhood as she searches for independence in a world dominated by men and social conventions.

Ticket includes light refreshments. Members receive 20% off current and past Book Club titles from the QAGOMA Store.
