What to expect

Here’s what to expect at this event.

Everyone is welcome! Please contact events.plus@qagoma.qld.gov.au in advance of the program if you have any accessibility needs or queries about the event. Find out more about Accessibility at QAGOMA and planning your visit.

Participation and content

  • These workshops focus on wellbeing and may touch on the theme of mental health. QAGOMA is not a licensed mental health service and is not a substitute for professional mental health advice, treatment or assessment. Advice given in these workshops are general in nature.
  • No experience is required. These sessions are appropriate for anyone. You’ll be guided by our expert facilitators – who are there to support you.
  • These workshops may include some group discussion and activities like drawing or writing. You can participate, ask questions or just listen.
  • Tickets can be purchased for individual workshops, or for all three sessions at a discounted rate. You don’t need to attend every session, choose the dates that suit you.
  • You are welcome to come with a friend or by yourself. Many people attend the Gallery and events solo.
  • All materials will be provided, you don’t need to bring anything.
  • We ask all attendees to be kind, respectful and courteous to all participants, speakers and staff at this event. This program will be monitored by QAGOMA staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our attendees, speakers and staff.

Sensory aspects

  • You will be provided with a standard height chair with a back or a floor chair.
  • The facilitator will use an amplified microphone and background music may be played.
  • We try our best to minimise sound in the space but sometimes there might be low level noise from a nearby artwork or the sounds of the Gallery.
  • A screen may be used during the event.
  • Different areas of the event and exhibition will be dimly or brightly lit (you may choose to wear sunglasses).
  • The bathrooms have sensor lights which activate as you enter.
  • The Gallery can get a little chilly as the temperature is set to 21 degrees for the preservation of the artwork, so bring a shawl or a light jacket.
  • You may be invited to close your eyes at times. This is a choice and eyes can remain open. Your comfort is most important.
  • Each workshop has a maximum capacity of 60 attendees.
  • If the event becomes overwhelming or stressful, earmuffs and sensory kits are available. Each kit contains a number of resources for self-regulation and calming. Please speak to a staff member for assistance. These kits can also be requested in advance by emailing events.plus@qagoma.qld.gov.au
  • These workshops will be photographed by QAGOMA staff. If you do not wish to be photographed, please advise a QAGOMA staff member.
