About
A dementia-accessible program for groups from residential aged care or day respite organisations.
QAGOMA’s award-winning Art and Dementia Program is a participant-focused, inclusive gallery experience designed for people living with dementia, to support psychosocial wellbeing. The program’s person-centred approach draws on non-pharmacological intervention strategies to sustain function and sense of self.
Slow viewing of selected artworks incorporates specially curated visual, auditory and narrative prompts that stimulate exploration and reflection. The therapeutic creative making activity invites relaxation and socialisation, supports autonomy, and encourages meaningful engagement.
When
We offer two Art and Dementia Aged Care and Day Respite Group programs per month from February to November, on selected Tuesdays and Thursdays. The program is booked exclusively by one organisation per booking date, for up to a maximum of six people with dementia. Care support staff to the appropriate ratio accompany group members for the duration of the program.
The program starts at 10:00am and concludes at 11:30am.
Location
This program is scheduled at the Queensland Art Gallery.
