About
Twelve-year-old model plane enthusiast Orville (Grant Navin) longs to be taken seriously by a local model plane circle. Disheartened by his failed attempts to join the group, Orville’s spirits are suddenly lifted when he discovers a real Tiger Moth plane hidden in an old factory. Diligently restoring the plane alongside its curmudgeonly owner Harry (Gordon Poole), it seems Orville’s dream to take to the skies may come true after all.
The debut feature from acclaimed director Rolf de Heer, this nostalgic childhood adventure was made on a shoestring budget by de Heer shortly after his graduation from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School in Sydney. The film is a time capsule of ungentrified inner-city Sydney and a sweet school holiday fantasy celebrating the triumph of an underdog dreamer.
