Stylish and creepy, Rosemary’s Baby vamps up the dark, satanic themes in this iconic horror. John Cassavetes plays career-conscious actor Guy alongside a luminous Mia Farrow as housewife Rosemary, a newly married couple who take an apartment in The Bramford (New York’s The Dakota building). Inquisitive neighbours Roman and Minnie Castavet (Sidney Blackmer and Ruth Gordon) begin showing a peculiar interest in Rosemary after she falls pregnant, recommending an obstetrician who prescribes a series of bizarre prenatal practices. The confined spaces of the apartment and brooding psychology of its inhabitants create a claustrophobic atmosphere as Rosemary soon begins to lose control of her life, her body and possibly her mind. Rosemary’s increasing suspicions of betrayal and conspiracy are intermixed with the natural fears and vulnerability of being pregnant, giving way to a shocking realisation about her unborn child.
