About
'The Day I Became a Woman is a sequential triptych that charts the life of a woman born into traditional culture. The title of each part carries the name of a different woman. 'Hava' (meaning 'Eve', or the first woman) is a little girl who wakes up on her ninth birthday to discover that she is now considered a woman. From that day on, her action will be restricted and she will be obliged to wear the hejab, the traditional Islamist covering for women. In the second part, 'Ahoo' (meaning 'deer', a beautiful but wild animal), a young woman who joins a bicycle race endures public humiliation by her husband and the male members of her clan, and faces divorce. In the third part, 'Hoora' (meaning 'a beautiful woman with dark eyes'), an old woman who has lost the chance to live her childhood and youth tries to fulfil her dreams by acquiring material goods.'
