About
'A remarkable and sensitive blend of the personal and the political, the conclusion of Nick Deocampo's trilogy from the Philippines on the theme of poverty and prostitution, is both distinctive and powerful. Narrated by Deocampo in English, the film documents the anti-Marcos revolution, the life of Oliver (a transvestite who was the subject of the first film in the trilogy), child prostitution, and the filmmaker's own personal history, including his homosexuality, his filmmaking, and his travels abroad.' Jonathan Rosenbaum
'In this autobiographic film I traced my own personal history set against the backdrop of a raging revolution. My awakening to my sexuality coincided with the unfolding of a social upheaval which defined our struggle to survive as people. As I journeyed into my self-consciousness, I realised that my search for a personal history paralleled the search for identity in the political and social life of our people. My search reflects the communal search for identity.' Nick Deocampo
