About
Dan Gilroy's Nightcrawler finds Jake Gyllenhaal at his slimiest best as the amoral Lou Bloom, a wannabe freelance cameraman trying to earn money by filming the aftermaths of crimes to sell to the local news station. Bloom's complete lack of principles allows him to quickly flourish, and he soon finds himself manipulating circumstances to gain more salacious material. Set amongst the streetlights and cheap neon of Los Angeles's streets, Nightcrawler is a slick neo-noir study of a bloodthirsty media landscape and the sociopathy that is encouraged to flourish within it.
