Incubus is a 1980s slasher with a sinister supernatural undercurrent, in which John Cassavetes plays the local doctor with a teenage daughter. The film plunges viewers into a small Wisconsin town that is terrorised by a series of frightening attacks on women. A young couple’s late-night rendezvous by an isolated waterhole, becomes the first tragic site of these occurrences leaving the man dead and the woman hospitalised. An uncanny atmosphere permeates the community as surely the predator walks among them. Cassavetes stars as Sam Cordell, a troubled doctor who unofficially takes over the police investigation to determine who, or possibly…what has committed these unusual crimes. In one of his later acting roles, Cassavetes’ gravitas steers the film with conviction.
