About
A madcap romp through mid-1970s Los Angeles, Hollywood Boulevard was the directorial debut of Joe Dante (Gremlins 1984) and Allan Arkush (Rock 'n' Roll High School 1979). The two were working as trailer editors at Roger Corman's New World Pictures when Corman made a bet that producer Jon Davison could put together the cheapest film ever produced as at the studio. With a $60,000 budget and a 10 day shoot, the filmmakers crafted an odyssey through the world of B-movie production, expanding the scope of the film by making liberaluse of off-cuts and footage from other New World Pictures titles. The result is an occasionally crass, frequently salacious, always riotously entertaining rollick that follows aspiring actress Candy Wednesday (Candice Rialson) as she arrives in the City of Angels hoping to become a star. Sleazy producers and callous actors abound as Candy gets a taste of what really happens behind the scenes of silver screen dreams.
Please note: this film contains scenes of sexual violence.
