About
A gripping, sweat-soaked plumbing of the recesses of the human soul, Sam Peckinpah's Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia is among cinema's most excoriating self-portraits. The film follows Bennie (Warren Oates), a booze-ravaged bartender living in Mexico, as he sets out with his girlfriend Elita (Isela Vega) to obtain the million dollar bounty on Elita's erstwhile lover Alfredo Garcia, who has impregnated the daughter of a local crime lord. Uniquely beautiful in its unrelenting ugliness, Peckinpah uses the pulpy framework to craft a powerful cri de cœur that teems with violence and an unforgettable sense of existential desperation.
