About
Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is the God of Thunder, wielder of the star-forged hammer Mjolnir and heir to the realm of Asgard, whose coronation is interrupted by the return of the banished Frost Giants. In defending Asgard, Thor defies his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins), who strips him of his power and exiles him to Earth, where he meets astrophysicist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Foster combines the supernatural with the scientific by identifying the portal to Asgard as an Einstein-Rosen bridge – also known as a wormhole. When Thor is arrested by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Foster's mentor Dr Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård) frees him to fend off the Destroyer (an Asgardian automaton), which has been sent by Thor's scheming brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
