About
Demons 2 will screen from an archival 35mm film print.
Demons 2 is another wild ride from the team behind the first Demons film. In a meta-twist on its predecessor, a new outbreak of bloodthirsty demons transpires when a teen girl in a high-rise apartment watches the original Demons on her TV. One of its creatures emerges from the film to attack her and kick off a new round of deadly infections.
Like the first film in the series, Demons 2 locks its characters in a confined space and has them fight for their lives. Here, the Berlin cinema is replaced by a much larger apartment block but the emphasis is still on the wickedly elaborate scenes of carnage and gore. The hard rock soundtrack of Demons is replaced by a surprising set of alternative British new wave – Billy Idol and Mötley Crüe are replaced by The Smiths, Peter Murphy, and Dead Can Dance. It also marks the first film appearance of Asia Argento, who was only 10 years old at the time.
Amongst the endless litany of Demons sequels – some official, some sequels in name only – Demons 2 is closest to the joyous schlock of the original. Their similarities in content and premise are many, with some actors from the first film even inexplicably appearing as totally different characters in the second, but together they are superior splatter entertainment.
