Nicknamed ‘Zuchinni’ by his mother, Icare (voiced by Gaspard Schlatter) suddenly finds himself in a children’s home after accidentally initiating the death of his alcoholic mother. With only an empty beer can to remind him of his mother and an illustrated kite to represent his absent father, Zuchinni finds himself alone and isolated in a home of lost and abandoned children. As Zuchinni becomes closer to the other children, he learns their stories and soon discovers that he is not alone.

Based on the novel by Gilles Paris, Céline Sciamma brings her unique writing style to the film to covey the emotional precocity of children. Sciamma’s delicate screenplay combined with masterful puppetry, offers a sophisticated portrayal of the complex emotions that are experienced by the film’s central characters.
