About
How long is long enough? Edson Oda’s stand-out directorial debut is a poetic investigation into the meaning of life and the kaleidoscopic possibilities it offers.
In an evocative space where the fates are decided, enigmatic Will (Winston Duke) spends his days monitoring the lives of his designated charges living on earth. When one is tragically killed, he begins the process of auditioning new candidates for the position as they arrive at his isolated abode to vie for the opportunity to be born. Interviewing each dispassionately over nine days, Will is shaken out of his repetitious daze when candidate Emma (Zazie Beetz), refuses to be processed as another administrative task. Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, Japanese-Brazilian director Edson Oda’s intriguing and ambitious metaphysical drama considers the unimaginable odds of being born and what it means when we succeed.
Nine Days held its world premiere debut at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival where writer director Edson Oda received the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.
