Inspired by Australia’s untold history, High Ground is a reckoning with the past, set in stunning country.
World War One army sniper-turned-policeman Travis (Simon Baker) loses control of his team during a confrontation in Northern Australia leading to the massacre of an Indigenous tribe. Leaving in disgust after the crime is covered up, he is forced to return as a bounty hunter 12 years later when warrior leader Baywara (Sean Mununggurr) conducts a spate of attacks on settler properties. Travis recruits mission-raised Gutjuk (Jacob Junior Nayinggul), survivor of the tragedy years prior as his Tracker. Gutjuk joins Travis for reasons of his own, a reckoning of their shared past. High Ground was highly acclaimed at its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival 2020.
Following the screening of High Ground, join director Stephen Johnson alongside actors Jacob Junior Nayinggul, Witiyana Marika and Maximillian Johnson for a insightful discussion into the making of the film and why High Ground has been such a deep passion project for everyone who worked on it.
