Live Music & Film: Aelita: Queen of Mars + Tom Thum
6.30PM Sat 12 Oct 2019 (1hr 51mins)
GOMA | Cinema A | Ticketed
Fresh from performing his world-first beatbox symphony at the Beethoven Festival in Germany, ARIA Award-nominated beatboxer Tom Thum brings his uncanny talent to early Russian science fiction classic Aelita: Queen of Mars 1924. Exploring the limits of the human voice to create incredible soundtracks of impossible beats and phenomenal sounds, Tom Thum is joined by the world-renowned Australian percussionist Ben Walsh and his beatbox symphony musical partner, conductor and composer Gordon Hamilton. The trio take on one of the earliest full-length films about space travel. A remarkable silent film boasting extraterrestrial romance and a funky sci-fi vision of the future, Aelita: Queen of Mars envisions life on Mars through elaborate sets and bold costumes underpinned by a distinctly human drama of power and revolt.
This is an all ages event.
