About
BIFF’s program of short films celebrates the unique craft of short-form filmmaking — a platform for emerging filmmakers that delicately balances the nuanced skill of storytelling and visual language, with imagination the only limitation. QAGOMA is thrilled to present its inaugural BIFF Short Film Awards in 2019, including the Screen Queensland Short Film Award for Queensland-made shorts, with the goal of discovering and supporting the next generation of Queensland’s creative talent.
Bus Stop
A lost soul is given a chance for redemption at a local bus stop in this evocative short film.
Room 264
A woman arrives in an unfamiliar environment and reflects on how she got to be there, using movement to express her emotions.
An Athlete Wrestling a Python
A filmmaker is frustrated when her family and boyfriend fail to understand her as she strives to finish her production.
Red Watch
In this snappy spoken-word short film saturated in primary colours, a woman recites an unrequited goodbye to her ex-boyfriend's red watch.
Here There Be Monsters
A young girl trying to escape incessant bullying falls asleep on the bus ride home. She wakes up trapped at an empty bus yard with something lurking outside – something big.
Backpedal
A young woman laments her teen years, her home town and the death of a friend in this visually surreal mosaic, adapted from renowned American spoken-word poet Olivia Gatwood’s poem of the same name.
All Good Things
Road trips usually signify a beginning, but for Isaac and his partner Levi, this is their last chance to spend time together before they part ways.
